I have been a part of the checkouts and customer service at Cold Storage Supermarkets and then at Giant Hypermart for 20 years. I discovered my passion to serve customers at the beginning of my career.Susan Yeo Gin Huay - Supervisor
I enjoyed working with the people, the memories, work culture and the experience of it all, is what makes me who I am.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of you, who have supported me during these past two decades of my work life. I’m just so glad I took the ticket.
My career with Giant Hypermarket started at the age of 50. Within these 12 years, I have witnessed the tremendous growth of the company. I was appointed as Asst. Dept Manager and am now currently holding the post of a Dept Manager.Arumugam Haridass - Department Manager
My current position enables me to participate in work improvement projects and also to meet constant challenges in logistics operations. We are constantly embarking on new and improved ways to run our operations. My peers have always been supportive of suggestions put forth and the support of Team Members has been an added advantage.
Dairy Farm has vast career growth within the group which I bear testimony. Their Vision, Mission and Valuess have always been an added advantage for personal career advancement. I am proud to be part of the Vision that is to be the most ADMIRED hypermarket chain in Singapore.
I like the working atmosphere. It is full of laughter and happiness. Working in DFSG gives you the opportunity for career growth. Most importantly how my boss treats me – with trust, gratitude and high respect.Saba - Office Manager
I am also thankful that Giant/DFI provides training for me, such as customer service, leadership programs and personal grooming, and I am really appreciative of are the practical on-ground training, guidance and support from my superiors.Jeslyn Ng - Store General Manager
I am also very happy to work at Giant, I achieved what I never expected and it totally changed my life.
This year marks my twelfth year in Giant. I still remember the first day I joined Giant as a cashier at our 1st Giant in Singapore, at IMM. It was a tiring experience but the excitement was unimaginable.Lim Choon Kee - Store Manager
In these 12 years, Giant values me not only as an employee but as a good partner. I was given the opportunity to go for trainings, like leader in Development, Diploma in retail management and many other short courses. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for those continuous learning.
I know that Giant will continue to nurture many other potential colleagues. I believe that it will continue to provide me with many more years to come.
Working at Giant is like working in a "giant family"Jeanette - GMS Head
Peers, colleagues are always lending a listening ear, or extending a helping hand. Bosses empower each individual and there is vast opportunities for training and development (be it Jardines, or DFSG internal training programmes). The "open door" philosophy which my COO advocate, gives us the confidence that there is always a channel for us to provide feedback and questions. In addition, the sharing session in the office every Tuesday bonds the family closer through updates on Giant performance, marketing activities and even little games to perk up the day. Not to mention that the team work hard, and play harder. This can be seen from our consecutive inter banner competition like the family day and Xmas party. The whole giant team(merchants and the operations team) really put our heart and soul to such competitions as it is a time for fun and bonding as well. The passion is just phenomenal.
Overall, in Giant, irregardless of whichever position you are in, you will never feel alone.
When I joined DFSG as a retail scholar in 2008, I was a NUS Business Administration graduate, with no background knowledge of retailing. Despite so, I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to kick start my buying career. As a management trainee, I joined the operations team at ground level for a short period to gain a better understanding of retail operations and their processes.Fennie Tan - Category Manager
Shortly after, I joined the merchandising team as a Category Executive, involved in purchasing of Children's Wear. It was a challenge to learn the rope of buying, especially for garments where a lot more details are involved.
In 2009, I was given two challenges - to take on an additional category, Ladies' wear, and join the 1-year GMS Specialist Development program provided by DFSG. Though it was tough to juggle between the two, the time spent was fruitful and fulfilling.
I am glad that there had been opportunities for me to learn and grow over the past four years with the company and it has, thus, shaped me to what I am today.
Every new team member will go through a two-day orientation programme and a two-day on-the-job training before starting work!
Service with a Touch. In Giant, we believe that good service is important.
