A partnership between Dairy Farm Singapore (DFSG) with North Wes t Community Development Council (CDC) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) is once again a success! More than 1,700 people gathered and set a new Singapore record for decorating reusable cotton bags, with their pledges to go green, in a location. This event received extensive media coverage.
Themed “Hands on Heart”, Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan, and Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District attended the event, which was held at Woodlands Square on 7 July 2012. Members of public got to enjoy a free community carnival on the same day.
This annual event is part of DFSG drive to promote Corporate Social Responsibility, which is to create awareness in saving the environment through Refuse, Reuse, Reduce and Recycle.
As part of going green, DFSG launched the Phase Two of the “Little Green Ambassadors Programme” (LGAP) nationwide. With the launch of this programme, DFSG hopes to create awareness to the public with Primary School students, to influence their parents to refuse and to reduce the use of plastic bags to save the environment.
All DFSG stores, such as Cold Storage, Shop N Save, Giant, Guardian Health & Beauty, and 7-Eleven are participating in the LGAP.
“Getting cashiers involved would raise environmental awareness among customers”, Mr Lester Quah, Retail Development Director.
DFSG has donated $50,000 worth of essential items to some 1,200 needy beneficiaries under the Care Community Service Society in relation to the event.
